Bonneville Dam recreation areas will close temporarily April 13

Portland, Ore. - The Bradford Island Visitor Center and fishing areas on Bradford and Robins islands at Bonneville Lock and Dam will temporarily close on Tuesday, April 13 for repair work on the swing bridge. The areas will close at 8 a.m. and reopen at 2 p.m.

The bridge's operational mechanism began to have problems early Saturday morning, April 3.

In the closed position, the swing bridge allows motorists to cross the navigation lock and gain access to Bradford and Robins islands. The bridge must be opened to allow water transportation to enter and exit the lock. The bridge will remain open to allow river transportation to continue while repairs are made.

The Washington shore visitor center and fishing areas at Hamilton Island will remain open and offer a variety of historic displays featuring videos, posters and maps. Guests can watch video presentations describing the dam's history and construction, or get a fish-eye view of salmon and other fish migrating up the dam's fish ladders. The best time to watch migrating fish is April through October.

Bonneville Lock and Dam, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is 40 miles east of Portland, Ore., on the Columbia River. The Washington Shore Visitor Center is located on Washington State Highway 14 at milepost 40.
