Portland, Ore.- Bonneville Dam interpretive ranger staff will host the fifth annual "Great Electrifying Event," on Saturday, Feb. 28.
The free educational event, designed to teach the basics of electricity, its origins, and how it is generated at Bonneville Lock and Dam, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Bradford Island Visitor Center, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Visitors will be able to participate in several educational stations: Atoms, Charges, Magnetism, Electricity and Hydropower. Special science experiments will demonstrate the characteristics of electricity. Guests also will be able to visit the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Fish Hatchery, located at Bonneville, where they can see Herman, the 10-foot long sturgeon.
The program, geared to elementary and middle school students, will be informative and fun for the entire family.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dam is located 40 miles east of Portland on the Columbia River, at exit 40 on Interstate 84.
