Corps seeks input on Portland medical office project

Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from J. Peterkort & Company to fill an isolated wetland pond to complete a medical office complex in Portland, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.

The work would include filling a .48 acre wetland pond and construction of the offices and parking areas. The project is located north of SW Barnes Road and east of the intersection of Highway 217 and Barnes Road in southwest Portland. Proposed mitigation will affect wetlands adjacent to a tributary of Johnson Creek.

The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area. The proposed project is not expected to impact endangered species or critical habitat.

For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice 2000-00832, which describes the proposed project in detail, please write to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, ATTN: CENWP-OP-GP, P.O. Box 2946, Portland, OR 97208-2946. A copy of the public notice is posted on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/200000832.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.

Written comments must reach the Corps by Oct. 21, 2000, and should be mailed to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Attn: CENWP-OP-GP (Richard Gebhart), P.O. Box 2946, Portland, OR 97208-2946. Send e-mail comments to richard.a.gebhart@usace.army.mil.
