Corps aids Morrow County watershed event

Portland, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will manage water releases from Willow Creek Dam to help educational coordinators with this year’s Watershed Field Days May 10 to 11 in Heppner, Ore.

Event coordinators requested the Corps modify water releases from the dam to ensure a consistent amount of water is in Willow Creek below Ione. Corps reservoir regulators will adjust releases from the dam, as needed, to correct for changes in flow from Rhea, Hinton and Shobe creeks, all are unregulated tributaries of Willow Creek.

After the event, Corps regulators will adjust releases from the dam to its normal operating schedule. During the spring, the Corps fills the reservoir for summertime use, but continues to release three cubic feet per second of water to meet minimum flow requirements.

The Corps operates Willow Creek Dam for flood damage reduction, recreation, and fish and wildlife enhancement.
