Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from the City of North Bend to construct a new boat launching ramp and boarding floats in Coos Bay, Ore. As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comments on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The work would consist of removing an existing fixed pier, construction of a 26.5 foot by 124 foot boat launching ramp and installing a 6 foot by 140 foot boarding float secured by steel piling. The project would require the excavation of 95 cubic yards (cy) of material, and placement of 300 cy of fill material. The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water, Coastal Management Zone and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area.
When work is being done in navigable waters, special conditions apply that will ensure proper disposal of construction debris and protection of fisheries and water quality. These conditions are contained in the public notice as well.
For a copy of the Corps’ Public Notice, which describes the proposed project in detail, please call Ron Marg at (503) 808-4390, or access the notice on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/199901197.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.
Written comments should reach the Corps by April 5, 2000, and should be mailed to
