Portland, Ore. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a permit application from Tillamook County Public Works to repair three areas of East Beaver Creek Road east of Beaver, Ore. The road was damaged when logjams rerouted the creek, which now flows down the roadbed in the affected areas.
As part of its permit evaluation process, the Corps is requesting public comment on the proposed project prior to making its determination on whether to issue or deny a permit for the work.
The work will consist of removing the logjams, restoring the creek to its original channel and rebuilding the stream channel and roadbeds. The area is home to both Coho Salmon and the Marbled Murrelet, an endangered bird. The Corps will consider whether the proposed project meets standards of the Clean Water and Endangered Species acts and will look at the overall impact of the project on the affected area. A permit will not be issued until consultation is complete with both the National Marine Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
For a copy of the Corps of Engineers’ Public Notice, which describes the proposed project in detail, please call Teena Monical at (503) 808-4384, or access the notice on the Corps’ Internet site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/notices/199901074.pdf. Photocopies of drawings supporting the proposed project are included in the public notice.
Written comments should reach the Corps by March 13, 2000, and should be mailed to
