The Nineteenth Century in Print: Books

Building the Digital Collection

The digital reproductions in the first release of The Nineteenth Century in Print: Books were created by the University of Michigan Library and are mounted and presented through a page-turning display from a server at the University of Michigan Digital Library Production Service (DLPS). To integrate these books into American Memory, copies of MARC catalog records from the University of Michigan were sent to the Library of Congress and indexed using InQuery.

Information about the digitization and the use of optical character recognition to generate searchable text is described at Publications and Papers from the University of Michigan DLPS.
