Little Pee Dee Watershed

General Description

The total estimated area in the watershed is 856,800 acres. This watershed is located in Columbus, Richmond, Robeson, and Scotland Counties in  Eastern North Carolina and Dillon, Horry, Marion, and Marlboro Counties in South Carolina.

The land uses in this watershed consist of cropland, forestland, and very little developed areas. The watershed area is in the Southern Coastal Plains resource area. The topography is gently rolling to nearly level. Counties in the watershed are located within the Carolina Sandhills and the Southern Rolling Coastal Plains Common Land Resource Areas.

There are about 230 farms covering 77,579 acres. The average size farm is 330 acres. Primary crops include soybeans, cotton,  tobacco, and corn.  There is also a number of swine operations.
