The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) introduces students in grades 8-12 to scientific research and experimentation. The program emphasizes the importance of research in human affairs. JSHS provides students an opportunity to conduct original research, and report on their findings. JSHS participants visit research facilities and have an opportunity to interact with professional scientists. Students interested in Science, Mathematics, or Engineering, can develop their own investigation and share their findings with other students from throughout DoDDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam. Presentations are given in original research project and formal poster categories.  Entries are judged, and awards and scholarships are given to top presenters.  The top three oral presenters travel to the United States where they compete on the national level.

Ninety (90) DODDS-Pacific/DDESS-Guam students met at Tsukuba City, just north of Tokyo, for the JSHS March 24, 2008. Three students were selected to attend the National JSHS in Orlando Florida. The 2009 Pacific JSHS is scheduled to take place in Tsukuba this March.

The Pacific Junior Science and Humanities Symposium is a rewarding academic activity and a great introduction to the world of scientific research.  To learn more about JSHS visit http://www.jshs.org, or contact the Pacific Regional Director at 644-5669 (011-81-6117-44-5669 when dialing from the U.S).
