NRCS Chief Bruce Knight Discusses 2002 Farm Bill and New USDA Energy Initiative

Little Rock, Ark. – Farmers and landowners in Arkansas have until Feb. 3, 2006, to submit applications to receive cost-share assistance to implement conservation activities through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). NRCS Accepting Applications for Wetlands Reserve Program Through Dec. 15

Little Rock, Ark. - Landowners in Arkansas with qualifying properties are being encouraged to consider applying for the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP).    This is a voluntary program offering landowners the opportunity to protect, restore and enhance wetlands on their property.  Arkansas is currently ranked second in the nation in enrolled Wetlands Reserve Program acres. This equals approximately 190,000 active acres enrolled in the program since 1995.

Three Arkansas Watersheds Selected for 2006 Conservation Security Program

PALMER, Alaska, Aug. 29, 2005 - Agriculture Deputy Secretary Chuck Conner announced Aug. 25 that three Arkansas watersheds will be eligible for the 2006 Conservation Security Program administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Nationwide, 110 watersheds, with at least one in all 50 states, Guam and Puerto Rico, were chosen.

NRCS Announces 2005 Conservation Security Program Contracts

WASHINGTON, July 25, 2005 -- Agriculture Deputy Secretary Chuck Conner today announced that USDA will offer 12,700 Conservation Security Program (CSP) contracts across the nation.  In Arkansas, 447 contracts will be awarded totaling more than $9.3 million and by the end of the fiscal year up to 589 contracts totaling $10.5 million.

Grassland Reserve Program Sign Ups Extended Through July 22

Little Rock, Ark., June 30, 2005 – Sign ups for the 2005 Grassland Reserve Program have been extended through July 22 at the local USDA service center. The Grassland Reserve Program is a voluntary program offering financial and technical assistance to farmers and ranchers to protect, restore and enhance grasslands on their property.

NRCS Benefits Ivory-billed Woodpecker through WHIP

Little Rock, Ark., July 11, 2005 – The Natural Resources Conservation Service sign-up period for the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program to benefit the Ivory-billed woodpecker ends July 15. Landowners may apply for the program at local USDA service centers. “Because of federal policy on threatened and endangered species, NRCS can offer this special 100 percent cost-share program with 15-year contracts,” said State Conservationist Kalven L. Trice.

USDA APPROVED $18.3 MILLION FOR LIMITED RESOURCE FARMERS
FY 2004 Funds Provided Through Environmental Quality Incentives Program

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., May 23, 2005 - Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns today announced that 1,156 Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) contracts covering nearly 436,000 acres of farm and ranch land were approved for limited resource farmers and ranchers in fiscal year 2004 for a total of $18.3 million.

USDA PROVIDES $4 MILLION AND REQUESTS PROPOSALS FOR WETLANDS RESERVE ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM

WASHINGTON, May 16, 2005-Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns today announced that $4 million is available in financial assistance for Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program (WREP) partnership proposals that restore and protect habitat for migratory birds and other wetland dependent wildlife.

WASHINGTON, May 11, 2005-Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns today awarded $1 million to eight entities through the Conservation Partnership Initiative (CPI), a voluntary program designed to foster conservation partnerships and fund projects that focus technical and financial resources on conservation priorities in watersheds and other geographic areas of environmental sensitivity.
