Mayor Bloomberg Delivers 2009 State of the City Address
Mayor Bloomberg delivered his eighth annual State of the City address today at Brooklyn College in Flatbush, detailing his agenda to move New York City through the national economic downturn. He outlined a three-pronged strategy to strengthen the City’s economy by creating a comprehensive job growth program, maintaining and improving quality of life and finding new efficiencies throughout city government, while also protecting core city services.

today announced the approval of $24 million in emergency assistance to

Announce Fire Deaths Declined 10 Percent in 2008
Mayor Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Scoppetta today announced that fire
fatalities declined 10 percent in the City last year, continuing a historic,
unprecedented drop in civilian fire-related deaths during the last several
years. The Mayor and Commissioner also announced that in 2008 the Fire
Department had the fastest response time to structural fires in 14 years,
getting on scene 15 seconds quicker on average as compared to 2007.

Mayor Bloomberg and Parks Commissioner Benepe
Announce MulchFest 2009 Will Be Held This Weekend
Mayor Bloomberg and Parks & Recreation Commissioner Benepe today announced
the 13th annual MulchFest, a citywide event where New Yorkers can recycle
their Christmas trees by converting them into wood chips. This year, Parks
& Recreation has designated 89 recycling sites to accept trees throughout
the five boroughs on Saturday, January 10, and Sunday, January 11, between
10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. At many of the tree drop-off locations, chippers
will be on hand and residents will be able to take home mulch for their
own gardens and plants.

Mayor Bloomberg Presents $59.1 Billion
FY 2009 Executive Budget
Mayor Bloomberg today announced his Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 Executive Budget
and presented an updated four-year financial plan for New York City. The
$59.1 billion budget maintains the City's firm financial footing in the
near term by reining in expenditures across the city, with city-funded
spending expected to only grow by 0.1 percent.

Accountability Report
Mayor Bloomberg today released his third Campaign Accountability Report,
showing that nearly a year and a half after Election Day 2005, 96% of the
100 campaign promises the Mayor made during the 2005 campaign have either
been fully implemented or are currently being implemented.
