Just The Facts About Raystown Lake Pennsylvania

                                

 

Photo showing view of the lake via the Overlook Raystown Lake was constructed between 1968 and 1978 at a cost of $76 million.  Flood control is the primary purpose.  Other missions include recreation, fish and wildlife management, hydropower and low flow enhancement.  

The Corps operates and maintains 12 public access areas. Facilities include beaches, boat launches, campgrounds, trails, and hunting and fishing.   Approximately 1.5 million visitors per year engage in the many activities that Raystown Lake offers.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is responsible for enforcement of state game laws on the project, and manages a 3,000 acre mitigation area under a lease agreement with the Corps. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is responsible for enforcement of state fishing and boating laws on the project. By agreement, this commission manages the fishery at Raystown Lake in cooperation with the Corps.

Four concessions currently exist at the project:

Lake Raystown Resort

This concession area includes 407 acres on four peninsulas on the east shore of Raystown Lake just south of Pennsylvania Route 994. The concessionaire is the Patt Organization of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, which operates the following facilities: 292 site campground, 650 slip marina, 51 unit lodge/motel restaurant, water park complex, camp store/ administration building, gas station, tour boat and rental boats. The lease, initiated in March 1984, is for a term of 35 years.

Seven Points Marina

This marina concession is operated by Anchorage Enterprises, Inc., of Hesston, Pennsylvania. Facilities include a 513 wet slip marina, 287 dry slips in stack storage, a camp store, two cruise boats, rental boats, and a fuel and boat service building. The marina also operates a restaurant facility. This lease, initiated in April 1976, is for a term of 30 years.

Branch Camp

The Branch Camp concession is located two miles below the dam on the Juniata River. Facilities include a 27 site campground, vault toilet, and potable water. The lease, initiated in January 2001 is for a period of 5 years.

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse concession is located at Seven Points Beach, and offers a variety of snacks and fast food items. The lease, initiated in May 1994, is for a period of 10 years.

Project Location:  Located along Route 26 in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.

Authorization: The project was authorized by the Flood Control Act of Oct. 23, l962 (Public Law 87-874) and is described in House Document No. 565, 87th Congress, second session.
