Wind Energy

In a historic event, BLM authorized Arizona's first wind energy development on public lands in the State of Arizona on Friday, October 24, 2008.  The Dry Lake Wind Project in Navajo County will provide renewable energy to consumers through contracts with Arizona's Salt River Project. The Dry Lake Wind Project will be constructed by Iberdrola Renewables on a mix of federal, state, and private lands northwest of Snowflake in northern Arizona.  Phase 1 of the development will include approximately 30 towers that produce 64 megawatts of power, enought to power 15,000 "typical" homes.  Future phases of the project could raise the total number of towers to more than 200.
