Montana NRCS Partnerships

The Montana Conservation Partnership

The Montana Conservation Partnership is committed to working with private landowners to conserve Montana’s natural resources and sustain the economic viability of Montana communities. While each partner has a unique mission and responsibility, the strong link between missions allows the partnership to share a common philosophy and commitment to conservation.

Partnership Members

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is the federal agency that works hand-in-hand with the people of Montana to conserve natural resources on private land. Formerly the Soil Conservation Service, NRCS brings more than 70 years of scientific and technical expertise to the partnership.

The Montana Association of Conservation Districts (MACD) is the state organization for 58 local conservation districts across the state. Conservation districts are local units of government responsible for the soil and water conservation work within their boundaries. The districts’ primary roles are to increase voluntary conservation among farmers, ranchers and other land users, and to provide leadership in helping communities address local conservation issues.

The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Conservation and Resource Development Division (DNRC-CARDD) provides assistance to conservation districts in carrying out natural resource programs. In addition to providing administrative, legal, and technical services for conservation districts, DNRC manages grant programs for reclamation projects, natural resource development, soil and water conservation, watershed planning, engineering services, and conservation district operations.

Montana Association of Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Councils provides a collective voice for Montana’s eight RC&D councils. RC&Ds help local citizens address problems by bringing together a cross section of local leaders with a variety of knowledge, expertise, and experience.
