Program Description
The VITA program offers free tax help to people who cannot afford
professional assistance. In addition to free tax return preparation
assistance, many sites also offer free electronic filing (e-filing).
Volunteers help prepare basic tax returns for taxpayers with low-to-moderate
incomes. Assistance is provided at community and neighborhood centers,
libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient
locations.
General Program Requirements
VITA volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation to
individuals with low to moderate income of $38,000 and below
for tax year 2005. Volunteers prepare basic forms
and scheduled based on their individual training certification
levels. The VITA program offers free tax help to people
who cannot afford professional assistance. In addition to free tax return
preparation assistance, many sites also offer free electronic filing
(e-filing). Partners
train volunteers to assist
with preparing basic tax returns for taxpayers with
low-to-moderate incomes that also include individuals
with disabilities, Non-English Speaking and elderly taxpayers.
