BLM Announces Free Firewood Cutting Near Hobo Camp

The Bureau of Land Management will hold a free firewood cutting day Wednesday, Oct. 15, at a designated area along the Southside Road west of the Hobo Camp Day Use Area.

A total of 20 permits will be available Thursday, Oct. 14, beginning at 8 a.m., at the BLM Eagle Lake Field Office, 2950 Riverside Dr., Susanville.  BLM will issue one permit per family on a first-come, first served basis.  Permits will be required for participation in the free wood cutting day.

The firewood, much of it already cut to rounds, is residual from the Hobo Camp Stewardship Project and the Bizz Johnson Trail Fuels Reduction Project, both designed to improve forest health and improve community wildfire protection.

For more information contact BLM Fuels Specialist Ed Merrill at 252-5396.
