Welcome to the LA Field Office!

The Louisiana Field Office is located adjacent to the beautiful Ouachita River in Monroe, Louisiana.  This office serves as the “hub” for performing a LA Field Officewide variety of mission essential tasks for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Natural resource management, recreation, environmental stewardship, interpretation, visitor assistance and flood control are all considered in our multiple-use operating principles.  Many outdoor opportunities await visitors at projects located in Louisiana and Southern Arkansas.  These projects are located along the scenic Ouachita River and recently developed J. Bennett Johnston Waterway (Red River).  While providing an economic means of transportation through navigation, these rivers also invite visitors to enjoy many forms of recreation.  Boating, fishing, hunting, bird watching, camping, picnicking or just slowing down to take in the scenery are all pursuits enjoyed along these majestic bodies of water.

The J. Bennett Johnston Regional Visitor Center, located in Shreveport, Louisiana is open to the public and serves to better acquaint visitors with the rich history of the Red River and the role that the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has played in taming the River. The visitor center offers a theater that highlights the history and development of the Red River and an exhibition hall with audiovisuals, static and interactive exhibits.

An additional visitor center is located at Grand Ecore just north of Natchitoches, Louisiana.  Located   atop the hills within a historic civil war battlefield, it overlooks the confluence of Bayou Pierre on the Red River.  Many interesting displays and interactive exhibits are available to the public.  Be sure to visit the gazebo that offers a unique panoramic view of the river.

Other opportunities can be enjoyed at Bayou Bodcau Dam and Reservoir, Caddo Lake Dam and Wallace Lake Dam.  Constructed as flood control projects, these areas are very diverse in plant and wildlife species and are managed to provide an array of recreational opportunities to the visiting public.  Just a few of  the activities pursued at these locations are camping, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, hiking and mountain bike riding.
