Prints and Photographs Division
William C. Brumfield is Professor of Russian Studies at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. The William C. Brumfield Collection consists of approximately 1,100 photographs given to the Library of Congress in 2000 and 2004 by Professor Brumfield. The collection includes photographs of the Russian North that Professor Brumfield took in the course of his research over many years, as well as several hundred photographs taken especially for Meeting of Frontiers on three trips to Russia in 1999 and 2000 and 2003. The photographs document churches and other architecturally noteworthy buildings in the most important cities of the Russian North, Siberia, and the Russian Far East. The photographs capture the architectural heritage of pre-Soviet Russia, much of which has been lost as a result of fires, wars, and deliberate destruction during the Soviet period. Many of the pre-Soviet buildings captured in the photographs are being restored. The collection also documents some of the locations that were photographed by Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii at the beginning of the twentieth century. A selection of Prokudin-Gorskii's photographs is included in Meeting of Frontiers.

Ряд фотографий Прокудина- Горского включен в проект "Встреча на границах".
