The Institute of the North Институт Севера

The Institute of the North, founded by former Alaska governor and Secretary of the Interior, Walter J. Hickel, was established as the leading center for teaching and learning about common and state resource management. Alaska is the model for other nations and states of how to manage their land and seas for the mutual benefit of all their people.

The Institute of the North has also become a center for study of state, national, and international strategy related to the unique geography, location, features, and assets of Alaska and the Arctic. Its programs convene meetings with top-level regional leaders to formulate state, national, and international strategy. Institute programs include geography, law, security strategy, land-use development, and circumpolar regimes. In 2002, the Institute co-published Crisis in the Commons: The Alaska Solution by founder Walter J. Hickel — a textbook on commons management. As host to the Alaska Geographic Alliance, the Institute is also publisher of the Alaska in Maps Atlas and CD-Rom, and the Harriman Expedition Retraced Web site.

Through a grant with the U.S. Department of Education and a close partnership with the Library of Congress, the Institute of the North, with the Alaska Geographic Alliance, is producing educational materials based on the LOC Meeting of Frontiers Web site. Институт Севера был основан бывшим губернатором Аляски и Министром Отечественных ресурсов Вальтером Хикелем как главный учебно-исследовательский центр по использованию национальных ресурсов. Аляска служит образцом для других штатов в бережном использовании своих земельных и водных ресурсов на благо всего народа.
 
Институт Севера также стал государственным, национальным и международным центром по изучению уникальной географии, местоположения, особенностей и ценностей Аляски и Арктики. В рамках его программы встреча с лидерами региона в целях разработки государственной, национальной и международной стратегии. Программы института включают географию, правоохрану, безопасность и развитие Заполярья. В 2002 году Институт опубликовал учебник по общему менеджменту - "Кризис Экосферы: Решение для Аляски", автор – основатель Института Севера, Вальтер Хикел.  Как "хост" (ам.) Географического Союза Аляски Институт выпустил атлас и СД "Карты Аляски," которые также были опубликованы на веб сайте Экспедиции Харримэна.
 
Субсидируемый Министерством Образования США и в тесном сотрудничестве с Библиотекой Конгресса Институт Севера и Географический Союз Аляски готовят учебные материалы основанные на документах веб сайта Библиотеки Конгресса «Встреча на границах».
