Hunting Zones: It is the hunter’s responsibility to observe property lines and be aware of the boundaries of the hunting area he or she uses. In addition, a 600 foot wide buffer strip beginning at the government property line and extending toward the lake is closed to hunting to ensure the safety of adjacent property owners.     

The area north of Highway 380 has been leased to the City of Denton and any hunting in that area will be administered by that city. Hunting information for that area can be obtained by calling (940)349-8202.

Hunting on Lake Ray Roberts has been leased to Texas Parks and Wildlife. See their website, www.tpwd.state.tx.us, for more information about hunting on Ray Roberts.

Legal Game: Dove, quail, squirrel, rabbits, waterfowl, turkey and feral hog (archery only)..

Bag Limits: Bag limits are the same as those listed in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunting Guide.

Open Seasons: The 2008-2009 hunting season will open September 1, 2008 and close on August 31, 2009 to allow archery hunting for turkeys during the Denton County spring hunting season for gobblers and year-round hunting for feral hogs). Legal game listed above may be hunted during the open seasons shown in the current Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunting Guide in the County Listings section and supplemental brochures. All project hunting lands are in Denton County.

Legal Hunting Weapons and Methods: Hunting is restricted to the use of shotguns with shot no larger than #2, and archery. Non-toxic shot is required when hunting waterfowl. Rifles, pistols, muzzleloaders and crossbows are prohibited. Dogs may be used when hunting rabbit, squirrels, game birds and migratory game birds. Trapping is prohibited. Portable hunting stands may be used so long as no tree damage occurs (including screws) and they are not abandoned, stored or left on government land more than 24 hours.

Hunting Licenses, Permits, and Fees: Hunters must have in their possession a valid state hunting license and a Corps of Engineers hunting permit while hunting on project lands. All hunters must have completed a state approved hunter education course or purchase a "Hunters Education Deferral" prior to being issued a Corps of Engineers hunting permit. There is no charge for the Corps permit.  Hunters must display a Corps of Engineers vehicle permit on the dashboard.    Permits for the 2008-2009 hunting season must be obtained in person at the Trinity Regional Project Office (1801 N. MIll St., Lewisville, TX 75057) August 15, 2008 through March 31, 2009. 

Hunter Responsibility: All hunters must obey hunting regulations issued by County, State, and Federal Governments and abide by the Fort Worth District hunting policy. All persons hunting on Corps of Engineers lands or waters will be held liable for any conduct or action which endangers the safety of other project visitors or adjacent landowners and for damage to property on project lands and adjoining private property.   One visitor is permitted with the permit holder so long as the visitor also has proof of a state approved hunter education course.
