Russell Papers

The "Russell Papers" are a series of approximately 20 technical reports and monographs written about the archeological and historical research conducted in the Richard B. Russell Multiple Resource Area from 1969 through 1985. Work was contracted by the National Park Service with funds supplied by the U.S. Army Corps of  Engineers. This research preceded building of the Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake by the Army Corps of  Engineers. Archeologists, historians, and others investigated prehistoric and historic sites in Elbert and Hart Counties in Georgia, and Abbeville and Anderson Counties in South Carolina, spanning 11,500 years of human occupation. Popular history accounts of the research findings are contained in the Beneath These Waters and In Those Days volumes.

The Russell Papers are out of print. For more information on the Richard B. Russell Project, contact:  Richard B. Russell Dam & Lake Office, 4144 Russell Dam Drive, Elberton, GA 30635. Phone numbers: (706) 213-3400, 1-800-944-7207; FAX: (706) 213-3440; E-mail: cesas-op-r@sas02.usace.army.mil.
