Our Mission The mission of the National Center for Standards and Certification Information is to provide standards-related assistance, information, and knowledge that meets customer requirements and exceeds their expectations. Our Vision The vision of the National Center for Standards and Certification Information is to be broadly recognized as a principal source for standards-related assistance, information, and knowledge. Our RolesIn the United States, the National Center for Standards and Certification Information (NCSCI) is assigned the role of national standards information center and the role of U.S.A. Inquiry Point under the World Trade Organization Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (WTO TBT). (See United States Code, Title 19, Chapter 13, Subchapter II, Part B, Sec. 2544 and Sec. 2542).
As the national standards information center, NCSCI is the U.S. source for standards and standards-related information at home and abroad. The Center provides bibliographic information on U.S., foreign, regional, and international voluntary standards, mandatory government regulations, and conformity assessment procedures for nonagricultural products. Resources include an extensive collection of electronic reference materials, including U.S. military and other Federal Government specifications, U.S. industry and national standards, international standards, and selected foreign national standards.
As the U.S.A. WTO TBT Inquiry Point, NCSCI responds to requests for specialized standards information, provides contact points for translations of foreign standards and regulations, and disseminates information to export stakeholders concerning proposed foreign regulations and general standards that affect U.S. success in global markets.
