Program Description
The Louisiana Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was designed to provide children of needy families with nutritious meals during the summer months when school is out. The SFSP provides free meals to all children 18 years of age and under, and persons over 18 years of age who are determined by the state or local educational authority to be mentally or physically disabled and who participate in public or nonpublic private school programs established for the mentally or physically disabled. Organizations which are eligible to be local SFSP sponsors include public and nonpublic private schools, public or nonprofit private residential summer camps, units of local, municipal, county, tribal, or state government, and National Youth Sports Programs.
