Texas Utility Rate Assistance

  • Utility rate discounts

  • Up to a $25 million contribution to fund a new low-income discount program for TXU Energy and TXU SESCO customers who previously qualified for the low-income customer program that was discontinued by the Texas legislature. This contribution will allow eligible customers to obtain a 10 percent discount on their 2006 electricity bills.

  • As of September 2006, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric LLC will spend $10 million per year on low-income bill payment assistance, including $7.2 million for a discount of $6 per month and $2.8 million for crisis assistance.
