California Fuel Funds
- Cash donations for low-income energy crisis from private and
public utilities, cooperatives, city funds and church and community
sources.
- Some of the larger utility-funded programs include:
- Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH),
instituted in 1983, is funded by donations of about $2 million
each year from customers and employees of Pacific Gas and Electric
(PG&E).
- Customer donations to Southern California Gas Co.'s Gas Assistance
Fund are matched dollar for dollar up to $250,000 by corporate
funding from Sempra Energy.
- Southern California Edison's Energy Assistance Fund is an assistance
fund designed to help those in need pay their winter electric
bills each year in February and March. SCE shareholders match
customer donations dollar for dollar.
