Employment Related Agencies and Organizations

Office of Family Assistance (OFA)
OFA, within the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, oversees the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program created by the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) of 1996.

Department of Labor (DOL), Welfare to Work (WtW) Site
The U.S. Department of Labor is charged with preparing the American workforce for new and better jobs, and ensuring the adequacy of America's workplaces. The DOL Welfare-to-Work assistance program is designed to provide employment assistance to the hardest to employ welfare recipients to help them move from welfare to work by achieving long-term unsubsidized employment and ultimately, self-sufficiency.

Department of Labor, Working Partners for an Alcohol-and-Drug-Free Workplace
The US Department of Labor's Working Partners for an Alcohol-and-Drug-Free Workplace Program is a one-stop source for workplace alcohol and other drug abuse information, government assistance, and resources. The program provides tools to communities, businesses, and social service programs to use in reducing the prevalence of drug and alcohol problems.

WorkforceUSA.net
WorkforceUSA.net provides a variety of resources for shared learning of stakeholders in workforce development, including community-based organizations, state and county social services, community colleges, private firms, employer associations, unions, economic development organizations, One Stop Career Centers, and Workforce Investment Boards. It includes a variety of up-to-date resources on workforce development and information sharing among stakeholders. The website includes the latest information on workforce development policy, resources from the field, and upcoming events. It offers employment assistance to its members by providing resources for research, information on funding, and upcoming events, and job postings.

National H.I.R.E. Network
Established by the Legal Action Center, the National "Helping Individuals with criminal records Re-enter through Employment" Network is both a national clearinghouse for welfare information and an advocate for policy change. As a tool for employment assistance, the goal of the National H.I.R.E. Network is to increase the number and quality of job opportunities available to people with criminal records by changing public policies, employment practices, and public opinion. The National H.I.R.E. Network also provides training and technical assistance to agencies working to improve the welfare to work rates for low-income people with criminal records.
