JANUARY PROCLAIMED CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

CHICAGO, Ill. – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich declared January Cervical Cancer Awareness Month in Illinois and is urging all women, especially women who smoke, to get screened regularly for cervical cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, women who smoke are almost twice as likely as non-smokers to develop cervical cancer.

FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF SMOKE-FREE ILLINOIS ACT OBSERVED

CHICAGO, Ill. – Illinois Department of Public Health Director joined the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago and others to celebrate the first anniversary of the Smoke-free Illinois Act by unveiling a sculpture created from ashtrays that were donated in support of the new law.

NOT TOO LATE TO GET A FLU SHOT SAYS PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTOR

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – To help stay healthy this holiday season, Illinois Department of Public Health Director, Dr. Damon T. Arnold, is reminding Illinoisans that it is not too late to get a flu shot this year. Along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the State of Illinois is now recommending that children age 6 months through age 18 should receive a flu shot.

STUDENT CREATED MURAL TO BE UNVEILED FOR WORLD AIDS DAY
