waste with minimum public risk. Includes discussion of techniques developed
at Argonne .

chemical waste is handled when the gas station, military base, or factory
is closed so the site doesn't pose a danger to the people who use it
next.
- Assessing the Costs of Cleaning Up – There
may actually be times when it's better to leave some things as they

help clean up the mess man leaves behind.
Recycling: Why Bother? – There are many good reasons. Speakers
will explain the benefits and why it is clearly worthwhile to recycle.
Radiation: It's All around Us – There are many kinds of radiation.
They are a natural part of our environment. Presentation will provide
perspective on radiation's role in our lives.
The Greenhouse Effect: Carbon Dioxide and Climate – Our
climate is changing due to concentrations of CO2 in the
atmosphere. However, it's not at all clear what we can do to slow and
halt this trend. Speakers will discuss current scientific knowledge as
well as their personal views on what's happening and what can we do about
it.
Mark Twain Revisited: What Can We Do about the Weather? – We
can get ready for it. A look at Argonne 's Atmospheric Boundary Layer
Experiments, which gather data to improve our ability to predict the
weather.
The Great Indoors – We can keep the quality of life in
our buildings safe and healthy if we know what to watch out for. Discussion
on how to deal with solvents, noise, lead and other everyday dangers.
Waste Management – Ways of disposing of various types of garbage.
Pollution Prevention – How it pays to be environmentally conscious.
