All About OAES

Mr. David Petree

I would like to welcome you to Osan American Elementary School (OAES). OAES provides quality educational opportunities for all students to become critical thinkers, life-long learners, and productive citizens in a global society. I am the Principal and the Assistant Principal of OAES. Mr. Burk, school counselor, is the Acting Principal when I am on temporary duty or leave.

OAES is a small school located on Osan Air Base in the Republic of South Korea, with a population of approximately 350-370 students each year. Our school consists of Preschool Services for Children with Disabilities (PSCD), Sure Start and Kindergarten through Sixth Grades. OAES is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI). Please visit the various links on our website to learn more details about our school and the Osan community.

OAES is an exceptional school where students are our main focus. Each student is a valuable member of our student body. Our educators are all certified teachers who are dedicated to providing quality standards-based educational programs and opportunities for ALL students. Teachers are selected from stateside and local applicants. OAES has a diverse student population from various cultural backgrounds who are made up of a cross section of military and civilian dependents living overseas.

The School Improvement Process (SIP) at OAES focuses on improvement of student performance and is developed utilizing data that is both gathered from local assessments and DoDEA system-wide data driven performances. The Principal and educators are committed to meeting and exceeding the SIP goals and SIP interventions to promote and increase highest student achievement for ALL students.

The Osan Air Base community is very involved in our school. You will see many parent, military and community volunteers working in our school daily. The volunteers read to students, work with small groups of students, assist the teacher and other duties. We also have students who come from the Osan American High School to work in classrooms. The community often sponsors contests that students can choose to enter to create posters, essays and other artifacts. All volunteers are a welcomed addition to our school.

Our vision is "a community of learners striving towards excellence" and we all strive to make OAES the best school for our students. Welcome to the home of the "Mighty Mustangs"!
