87th Annual American Education Week
November 16th-22th 2008

The 87th Annual American Education Week (AEW) will be observed from November 16-22, 2008. The theme, "Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility," reminds us all of the need to provide students with quality public schools so they can grow, prosper, and achieve in the 21st century. Schools across the nation and throughout the world in Department of Defense Schools will celebrate AEW along with many educational organizations, including the National Education Association (NEA) and the National PTA.

This celebration highlights the importance of providing every child in America with a quality public education, and the need for everyone to participate in making public schools great. Throughout the week, schools have an opportunity to recognize the important partnerships they have forged with parents, students, and civilian and military communities to improve the quality of education for children of military families. Our schools take on an additional role and significance in our communities, often providing the stability, routine and focus for families affected by current global events, deployments, and separations.
