Conway Bombing and Gunnery Range (BGR)

Site Inspection Report Lake Murray Bombing Range Lexington and Newberry Counties South Carolina

FUDS Project No. I04SC004001 — August 2007

The objective of the site inspection (SI) for the former Lake Murray Bombing Range site was to discern the presence or absence of munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) and munitions constituents (MC) within the three designated Munitions Response Sites (MRS) - Dreher Island, Lunch Island, and Shull Island/Twin Islands. The SI was conducted from September 25, 2006 through September 28, 2006.

The SI work included the gathering of quantitative (i.e. MC sampling) data within these four MRSs by the site visit team (SVT). The SVT also conducted a qualitative reconnaissance (QR) by traversing all the MRSs to gather general information about potential surficial presence of MEC and to assess the overall site conditions with regards to the logistical requirements for implementation of a potential Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS). The work was performed under Contract No.

The work was performed under Contract No. W912DY-04-D-0005, Task Order No. 0008 from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville (USAESCH).
