WASHINGTON, Nov. 21, 2002 – Two U.S. soldiers were shot this morning in Kuwait. Defense Department officials described their injuries as not life- threatening.
The 3rd U.S. Army soldiers were attacked by an unknown person or persons at about 10:30 a.m. local time while traveling from Camp Doha to the town of Arifjan. They were transported by military aircraft to Kuwait Military Hospital, which last reported their condition as being serious, but stable. One soldier was shot in the face, the other in the shoulder. Kuwaiti and U.S. military officials are investigating the incident. The officials also reported coalition aircrews struck Iraqi air defense sites in the Southern No-fly Zone twice today. The first strike occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. local time near Ash Shuaybah, approximately 245 miles southeast of Baghdad. They said the second strike came roughly two hours later near Tallil, about 170 miles southeast of Baghdad. Both coalition strikes involved precision-guided weapons and came when Iraq moved radar devices south of the 33rd parallel in violation of the established no-fly zone, U.S. Central Command officials said.
