The US Army Corps of Engineers is providing an innovative training opportunity in the sustainable environmental operating principles and cultural values of indigenous peoples. The training has four goals: (1) to develop a better understanding of indigenous cultural, spiritual and environmental beliefs, (2) to share the knowledge and experience of sustainable living, (3) to develop the principles and values necessary to evaluate Federal agency actions sustainability and environmental concerns, and (4) to find synergy in the sharing of ideas among Federal agencies in the protection and preservation of the land and natural environment. This training incorporates the ethics embodied in the USACE Environmental Operating Principles, specifically those dealing with sustainability. The National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP) provides professional recognition of environmental managers, engineers, technologists, scientists and technicians. Because this recognition is consolidated at a centralized source, potential employers can use this registry as a way of validating that these individuals are qualified to carry out operations and management of environmental activities.
