Public meeting Nov. 1 about upgrading Albeni Falls Dam recreation facilities Contact: Dee Flower (208) 437-3133 or Patricia Graesser (206) 764-3760 Oct. 17, 2000 Seattle--Albeni Falls Dam staff members will hold a public meeting Nov. 1 to discuss modernization plans for recreation and public use areas at sites along Lake Pend Oreille and the Pend Oreille River. This effort is a part of a nationwide initiative by the Army Corps of Engineers to modernize public recreation facilities. The Corps will gather public comments during the Nov. 1 meeting at the Federal Building, 1500 Highway 2, Sandpoint, Idaho, from 1-4 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to involve, inform and gather input from different groups and individuals who use and have an interest in the recreation facilities operated by the Corps at Albeni Falls Dam. The Corps will briefly describe the national initiatives for modernization of its public use and recreation areas. The staff will describe in detail the initial plans for upgrading campgrounds, day use areas and buildings. Members of the public will have an opportunity to make suggestions and recommendations and ask questions regarding needed improvements to recreation facilities as they pertain to the modernization program at Albeni Falls Dam. Topics for discussion will include the following: ? Recreation facility modernization concepts and initial plans for each park ? Implementation schedules and time lines ? Funding and impacts on implementation and schedules ? Questions regarding overall concepts, initial details, and scope of work This public meeting will not address operational issues such as hydropower generation, flood control, fishery issues, lake level, or the operation and maintenance of related structures.
