Public comments sought on modernizing visitor facilities at the Locks

Public comments sought on modernizing visitor facilities at the Locks Contact: Patricia Graesser (206) 764-3760 Sept. 5, 2000 SEATTLE—The staff at the Chittenden Locks in Ballard is offering two opportunities, Sept. 10 and 21, for public comments and questions about modernization of visitor facilities at the Locks. The Army Corps of Engineers, which operates the Locks, wants to incorporate ideas and recommendations from the public into modernization plans for its facilities. The natural resources staff at the Locks is specifically interested in ideas regarding improvements and additions to the visitor center, Lewis and Clark displays, and any other issues of interest to the public. On Sept. 10, preceding the 2 p.m. band concert, Ranger Craig Lykins will discuss some of the Corps’ initiatives and hand out comment cards to those in attendance. He will also be available following the concert to answer questions and accept suggestions and comments from the public. On Sept. 21 the Corps will hold an open house from 6 to 9 p.m. in the visitor center at the Locks. The natural resources staff will provide information about the facilities and modernization proposals, and will be available to answer questions and accept comments and suggestions. The staff at the Locks knows that public involvement is critical to successfully carrying out needed improvements at the Locks and encourages all interested people to attend. For more information, call Patricia Graesser at (206) 764-3760 or Craig Lykins at (206) 789-2622, ext. 211.
