SEATTLE - Colonel Anthony Wright assumed command today of the Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
As district engineer, Wright oversees military construction in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon. He also manages an extensive civil works engineering and construction mission in Washington, Idaho and Montana. His programs also include Historic Preservation of Historic Structures, and Hazardous, Toxic and Radioactive Waste cleanup.
Prior to arriving in Seattle, Wright attended the National War College, where he earned a master's degree in National Security Studies.
A native Northwesterner, Colonel Wright is originally from Oregon. He received a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon Institute of Technology.
Colonel Wright's experience in command and staff positions spans over 20 years. He has served in a variety of command and staff positions in the continental United States and overseas. His recent deployments include serving as Deputy Commander of the 937th Engineer Group during the invasion of Iraq and Commander of the 70th Engineer Battalion in Iraq from 2003-04 and 2005-2006.
Colonel Wright has been recognized for his significant contributions with a variety of awards, including 3 bronze stars, 6 meritorious service medals, 3 Army commendation medals (one with "V" device), and the combat action badge.
Colonel Wright is a member of the Association of the United States Army.
