Comments sought on draft environmental assessment of NW Aggregates Maury Island barge facility

A Draft Environmental Assessment /Finding of No Significant Impacts related to Northwest Aggregates' proposal for a Department of the Army permit to replace a barge loading facility on Maury Island, Wash., is available for public review and comments.

The decision whether to issue a permit will be based on this Draft EA/FONSI for the proposed activity. That decision will reflect the national concern for both protection and utilization of important resources.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public; in order to consider and evaluate the impacts of this activity. Any comments received will be considered by the Corps to determine whether to issue with conditions or deny a permit for the work.

Northwest Aggregates' proposed project was the subject of Public Notice issued Dec. 13, 2004, and Public Notice Erratum issued April 14, 2005. The Draft EA/FONSI and public notices describing the project are available at the following website: http://www.nws.usace.army.mil by clicking on the hotlink under "Links of Interest." The Draft EA/FONSI will also be available at the Vashon Library, 17210 Vashon Highway SW, Vashon Island, Wash.

Conventional mail or e-mail comments on this public notice will be accepted and made part of the record and will be considered in determining whether it would be in the public interest to authorize this proposal. In order to be accepted, e-mail comments must originate from the author’s e-mail account and must include on the subject line of the e-mail message the permit applicant’s name and reference number as shown below. All e-mail comments should be sent to olivia.h.romano@usace.army.mil. Conventional mail comments should be sent U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Regulatory Branch, PO Box 3755, Seattle, WA, 98124-3755. Comments must include the permit applicant’s name and reference number, as shown below, and the commentor’s name, address, and phone number. All comments, whether conventional mail or e-mail, must reach the Corps no later than March 10 to ensure consideration. Please include the following name and reference number: Northwest Aggregates, NWS-2000-1094-SO.
