Corps to hold public information meeting on the operations of Lake Washington Ship Canal

Contact: Andrea Takash, 206-766-6447

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public information meeting at the Ballard High School library Oct. 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to initiate preliminary discussions on possible future changes in the operation of the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard.

The Corps held a public comment period in May to address a proposed rule change in the Federal Register on the process of changing operations at the Locks. At the upcoming meeting, the Corps will announce a minor alteration in the process for implementing any schedule change that may prove necessary.

The Corps will also discuss the process by which the public will be notified of, and involved in, developing and carrying out any change in the operation of the Locks. This meeting will give the Corps the opportunity to explain this new plan, as well as address the public's questions and concerns.

The new fiscal year began Oct. 1. During the meeting, the Corps will explain the 2006 fiscal year budget as it currently stands.

The Ballard High School library is located at 1418 NW 65th St., Seattle, Wash. 98117.
