Free recreation activities on the Pend Oreille River this summerContact: 208-437-3133 May 4, 2004 OLDTOWN, Idaho--The Army Corps of Engineers will feature special events during the summer of 2004 in recreation areas along the Pend Oreille River and in the Visitor Center and Vista Area at Albeni Falls Dam. Campground programming is for campers, day users and local residents. The programs are on Friday and Saturday nights during the season. These programs will include talent shows, nature shows, water safety programs, games and special programs including speakers on Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea and bats. Contact the Visitor Center or the park hosts for schedules. The Visitor Center will be open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., beginning Sunday, May 16, through Labor Day. Exhibits provide hands-on enjoyment and there are movies for viewing. Tours of the dam will be daily at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. during normal hours of operation Memorial Day through Labor Day. Please call 208-437-3133 to schedule inside tours for community groups and educational institutions. The Corps of Engineers' campgrounds will be opening Saturday, May 8. Corps campgrounds include Priest River (better known as the "Mudhole"), Albeni Cove and Springy Point. The campgrounds offer boat ramps, beaches, picnic shelters, and showers. Call Albeni Falls dam at 208-437-3133 to reserve the picnic shelters at Priest River. The cost is $35 per day. The Riley Creek campground will be closed through the 2004 camping season due to construction activities while the Corps works to improve facilities and accessibility.
