Riley Creek campground modernization information meetings April 22 and 23

Contact: Gary Bond (208) 437-3133, or Patricia Graesser (206) 764-3760 April 5, 2003 SEATTLE--Modernization plans for Riley Creek campground near Laclede, Idaho, are the subject of public meetings April 22 and 23. The Army Corps of Engineers, which owns and operates the campground as part of its Albeni Falls Dam facilities, will provide information and answer questions during the meetings. The meeting April 22 is from 7-9 p.m. at the Federal Building, 1500 Highway 2, Sandpoint, Idaho. The meeting April 23 is at the Priest River Lamanna High School library, 1103 9th Street (Hwy 57), Priest River, Idaho, also from 7-9 p.m. The Corps will describe in detail the plans for upgrading the campground, day use areas and buildings at Riley Creek, and members of the public will have an opportunity to ask questions or provide written or oral comments. Topics include: · Recreation facility modernization plans for Riley Creek · Implementation schedules and time lines · Funding and impacts on implementation and schedules · Questions regarding overall concepts, initial details, and scope of work These meetings will not address operational issues such as hydropower generation, flood control, lake level, or the operation and maintenance of related structures. The Corps will wait to begin work until after this summers camping season. The work will include upgrades to the restrooms, improvements to an repaving of all roads and parking areas, realigning the camping sites to allow easier vehicle pull in and pull out. Upgrades are also planned to utilities, trails, boat ramps, picnic and playground facilities, the beach area and the amphitheater. Once modernization is completed, all facilities within the park will be accessible for people with disabilities.
