Libby Dam outflows ramp up to 10,000 cubic feet per second

Libby Dam outflows ramp up to 10,000 cubic feet per secondThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responding today (July 19) to Montana and county requests to ramp up Libby Dam, Mont., outflows from the present 6,000 cubic feet per second to 10,000 cfs.

The requests come from the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, to flush out algae downstream, and the Lincoln County Sheriff, to aid in search effort following Friday’s drowning of a local boy.

Ramping up of outflows began today at 7 a.m. and will increase by 1,000 cfs per hour to the 10,000 cfs level. Operators plan to hold that level for 24 hours and begin to ramp down Friday at 1-2,000 cfs per day, back down to 6,000 cfs.
