Assistant Secretary for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Wade F. Horn, Ph.D., with U.S. Senator Michael Crapo (Idaho), inaugurate National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week.

Assistant Secretary for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Wade F. Horn, Ph.D., with U.S. Senator Michael Crapo (Idaho), inaugurate National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week. The event took place at Woodrow Wilson High School Library in Washington, D.C.

Hosted by Senator Crapo, who is the author of a congressional resolution designating the week of February 6, 2006 as "National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week," the event began with a public service announcement created by students. Members of congress, students and local and federal officials spoke at the event.

Violence among teen dating partners is a growing problem in communities across America. In November 2004, students from 20 states traveled to the nation's capitol to develop strategies to address the problem of teen dating violence. The results include a toolkit created with the American Bar Association's Teen Dating Violence Prevention Initiative. The view this toolkit, go to: http://www.abanet.org/unmet/teendating/toolkitinstructions.pdf.

The Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) at the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) has funded numerous grants to raise awareness about and help stop teen dating violence.
