Stop Human Trafficking Day
Assistant Secretary for Children and Families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Wade F. Horn, Ph.D., with Montgomery County Police Dept. Chief Thomas Manger at “Stop Human Trafficking Day” in Montgomery County, Md.
Recent state prosecutions of four trafficking cases in Montgomery County, coupled with Montgomery County’s large immigrant population, indicate a potential human trafficking problem in the county. To raise awareness, Montgomery County issued a proclamation declaring Tuesday, November 22, 2005 as “Stop Human Trafficking Day.” Dr. Horn joined state and local officials at a news conference at the Gilchrist Center in Wheaton.
Between 14,500 and 17,500 men, women and children are trafficked to the U.S. each year. HHS’ campaign to Rescue and Restore Victims of Human Trafficking features a toll-free trafficking information and referral hotline: 1-888-373-7888.
