ACF Honors Susan Ossman for 53 Years of Public Service

Assistant Secretary for Children and Families at HHS, Wade F. Horn, Ph.D., presents Susan Ossman, senior program analyst, Office of Family Assistance, with an award in recognition of her service to the federal government.

Ossman received the award this month at an event announcing her retirement after 53 years of public service. Virtually all of her years of public service have been devoted to improving public welfare programs.

At the Administration for Children and Families, Ossman has served in a number of capacities including principal research analyst, senior statistician, emergency welfare service research analyst, operations research and statistics specialist, chief research analyst and acting director for the division of quality control.

She has received many awards and recognition for her exemplary service and expertise. Her dedication, resourcefulness and unique statistical and programmatic insight have made a sustained and significant contribution to the improvement and operation of public welfare programs. Her statistical design for and management of the quality control and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) High Performance Bonus systems are particularly noteworthy.

A native of Pennsylvania and a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia, Ossman is also a certified secondary school teacher who has taught mathematics and science to junior and senior high school students. Before coming to Washington, she was the head of the state statistical and data analysis unit for the Pennsylvania Department of Public Assistance.
