Elias Lönnrot and his Kalevala
by Elemér Bakó
The Library of Congress has recently digitized its 1985 publication Elias Lönnrot and his Kalevala, compiled by Elemér Bakó, the former Finno-Ugrian area specialist of the Library's European Division.
This bibliography is a revision of the author's 1978 publication of the same title. Both were prepared in conjunction with Kalevala displays in the European Reading Room marking the 175th anniversary of the birth of Elias Lönnrot, the Kalevala's creator, and the 150th anniversary of its first publication. The 1985 publication and display were prepared in support of a symposium "The Kalevala and Finnish Identity in Finland and in America," held at the Library of Congress on January 24, 1985.
Elias Lönnrot and his Kalevala is also linked to a permanent entry in the Library of Congress online catalog. The digitized versions presented here may be viewed via "page-turner" display or searchable .pdf
Of related interest, and also digitized, is the author's bibliography Finland and the Finns. A Selective Bibliography.
