Flood engineers stand by to work Thanksgiving DayFlood engineers stand by to work Thanksgiving Day FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Contact: Maria Or, (206) 764-6896, Reservoir Control Center (206) 764-6702 Nov. 24, 2004 SEATTLE - A few Reservoir Control Center (RCC) regulators will be missing Turkey Day while Emergency Management flood engineers stand by to flood-fight at a moments notice, specifically in the Skagit and Nooksack basins. The Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, RCC is activated and on 24-hour shifts until further notice as the National Weather Service continues to issue flood watches for all Western Washington rivers. The RCC manages and regulates five dams during times of floods. They are Mud Mountain and Howard Hanson, both located near Enumclaw; Ross and Upper Baker on the Skagit River; and Wynoochee Dam on the Wynoochee River. Flood storage space in all five dams is available to greatly reduce the risk of flood on those rivers. For more information and up-to-date forecasts go to www.nws.usace.army.mil and click on Hot Issues or call the RCC at (206) 764-6702.
