Seattle District Commander and District Engineer

Colonel Anthony Wright assumed command of the Seattle District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, July 24, 2008.

 

Colonel Wright is originally from Oregon where he enlisted as an infantryman in the Oregon Army National Guard in 1981 and was commissioned in 1983.  He entered active duty in 1985 and has served in a variety of command and staff positions in the continental United States and overseas.  His previous assignments include:  Company Executive Officer, 87th Engineer Company and Observer/Controller, National Training Center, at Fort Irwin, Calif.; Company Commander, C/237th Engineer Battalion in Neckarsulm, Germany; Assistant G3, 1st Armored Division and Company Commander, HHC 1st Armored Division Engineer Brigade in Bad Kreuznach, Germany; Engineer Trainer, 1457th Engineer Battalion, American Fork, Utah; G3 Plans Officer and Aide-de-Camp in V Corps in Heidelberg, Germany; Battalion S3, 565th Engineer Battalion and Brigade S3, 130th Engineer Brigade in Hanau, Germany; Engineer Operations Officer with the Stryker Brigade Coordination Cell in Ft. Lewis, Wash.; Deputy Commander, 937th Engineer Group in Ft. Riley, Kan. and Iraq; Battalion Commander, 70th Engineer Battalion in Ft. Riley, Kan., and Iraq; and the Engineer Branch Chief at Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Va.

 

He has deployed to the Balkans and three times to Iraq.

 

He is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College, and the National War College.

 

Colonel Wright received a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Oregon Institute of Technology and a master's degree in National Security Studies in June from the National War College in Washington, DC.

 

Colonel Wright's decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, The Army Commendation Medals with "V" device and two oak leaf clusters, and the combat action badge.  His unit awards include the Presidential Unit Citation and the Valorous Unit Award.
