The Chief Counsel's Honors Program

A Message from the Chief Counsel:

Thank you for your interest in the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). USACE prides itself in being our Nation's premier engineering organization. It has a varied and complex mission providing engineering support in both civil works and military arenas. On the civil side, our missions include operation and maintenance of our Nation's navigable waters, flood control, wetland protection and environmental restoration, hydroelectric power, and shore protection. For our Nation's military communities, we provide construction services and installations support. USACE also provides rapid response in disaster recovery after such events as hurricanes, floods and tornadoes. In addition, under a variety of statutory authorities, USACE provides "support for others" work for international, federal, state, local, tribal and territorial agencies. USACE is also a recognized leader in research and development. Its laboratories are providing ever more efficient and cost-effective solutions to meet the engineering demands of the 21st Century.

Naturally, given the breadth of these activities, practicing as a USACE attorney is both challenging and rewarding. USACE attorneys are counselors to decision makers and play a critical role in the planning and execution of USACE missions. As a USACE attorney, you will be called upon to address diverse and provocative legal issues, and will be directly responsible for assisting your clients in meeting our Nation's engineering challenges. Whether your specialty area is contracts or labor law, environmental law or patents and intellectual property, international law or water rights, I promise you, USACE will provide you work that is stimulating, varied and gratifying. You will serve on a team that plays a role in making our Nation great.

Again, thank you for your interest in the the Chief Counsel's Civilian Honors Program. The Civilian Honors Program Brochure includes a wealth of information about practicing as an attorney with the US Army Corps of Engineers, whose history and broad and varied missions are unique in the world.
