Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
The CDC Global AIDS Program Russia office was launched in late 2006. Since then,
the office has worked with the Government of Russia to implement an operational
plan emphasizing expanding and strengthening disease surveillance, developing
pilot programs to test improvements to the national prevention of
mother-to-child HIV transmission program and improving guidelines for testing
exposed infants. The office also provides technical input to other HIV programs
supported by the US government and international agencies in Russia.
In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). CDC GAP Russia is a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
