Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
The CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) India office opened in 2001. Since then,
supporting the National AIDS Control Program, CDC has focused its efforts on
preventing new infections, increasing the number of persons living with HIV/AIDS
that receive services, strengthening program capacity, and establishing a single
monitoring and evaluation system. CDC works in seven states in India: Tamil
Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Manipur and Nagaland.
In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC GAP India became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
